The Food Sovereignty Handbook grew out of the direct experiences of young people who took part in the activities and workshops of the Agroecology Is Life program, developed in collaboration with local farms. The handbook brings together stories, reflections, and good practices that emerged from engaging with rural realities: biodiversity, seasonality, and care for the land, offering a simple and living tool to inspire more conscious everyday choices and promote a new food culture.
Agroecology Is Life represents the first step in a broader ecoliteracy journey, an integral part of the Terrae Vivae programme promoted by Navdanya International. Within this vision, which aims to actively engage citizens, schools, producers, and whole communities in building regenerative food systems, the project represents the beginning of an agroecological education for younger generations. A foundational experience that lays the groundwork for even more active participation in subsequent school-to-work programmes, and that seeks to build collective awareness and new relationships between people, land, and ecosystems.
Through Terrae Vivae, choosing and producing quality food becomes an act of sharing and community. The democratisation of food systems is an essential step towards reversing the extractive and destructive logic of industrial lobbies, returning control and responsibility to local communities.
