champions sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, food sovereignty and the rights of small farmers around the world.

The EU’s final vote on plants produced by New Geno The EU’s final vote on plants produced by New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) weakens core GMO safeguards and treats many new GM plants as if they were conventional ones.

It reduces meaningful risk assessment, traceability and labelling, narrowing farmers’ and citizens’ right to know and to choose.

This decision is part of a wider global trend Navdanya International has documented: while biosafety rules are dismantled, patents, digital sequence information and restrictive licences expand corporate control over seeds and genomes.

Deregulation does not free innovation: it externalises risks and costs onto farmers, communities and ecosystems, while reinforcing dependence on a handful of agribusiness corporations.

Across regions, however, communities and movements are building powerful alliances for seed freedom, agroecology and food democracy.

This vote is not an endpoint but a reminder that we must continue to defend seeds as a commons and support the grassroots “seeds of resistance” already regenerating diverse, farmer‑managed food systems.
---

The EU is preparing to vote on new regulations for The EU is preparing to vote on new regulations for New Genomic Techniques (NGTs), which could deregulate a new generation of genetically modified organisms. Across Europe, farmers, citizens, environmentalists, and civil society organizations are mobilizing to demand transparency, traceability, mandatory labeling, and the protection of biodiversity.
We cannot allow new GMOs to enter our fields and food systems without proper assessment and safeguards, or without guaranteeing people’s freedom of choice.
Navdanya International stands with this mobilization: together, we defend seeds, biodiversity, peasant agriculture, and food sovereignty.
