Within the framework of the Tesori Naturali 2025 program promoted by the Lazio Region, two unique experiences of discovery and engagement were organized by Navdanya International in collaboration with, and under the patronage of, the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Park. These activities deepened participants’ sense of belonging and care towards the environment, biodiversity, and natural landscapes.
The excursions, which took place in June and July in the Rocca Romana woods (Trevignano Romano) and the Monte Raschio beech forest (Oriolo Romano, UNESCO site), allowed those taking part not only to learn about two protected areas of extraordinary natural value, but also to directly experience the intricacy and richness of Lazio’s forest ecosystems.
In Rocca Romana, the circular route led participants among ancient chestnuts, wildlife habitats, and lush vegetation, creating many moments for exploring ecological relationships, local history, and the future prospects of the forest community. Along the way, the guide encouraged observation of evidence of local wildlife—such as deer wallows, nesting sites, and animal markings—and fostered active discussion among participants. This open approach sparked questions, curiosity, and a lively exchange of ideas, nurturing greater ecological awareness and appreciation for the local natural heritage.
The Monte Raschio itinerary offered immersion in a rare relict ecosystem of major scientific significance, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting out from the historic center of Oriolo Romano, with a brief introduction to the town’s highlights, the group ventured into the beech forest. Throughout the walk, discussions focused on the distinctiveness of depressed beech woods, the range of forest species present, and different approaches to sustainable management, paying close attention to landscape, ecological, and historical factors. Here too, direct exchange between the guide and group encouraged new perspectives, prompting participants to observe the forest with fresh eyes and to reflect and share on the future of these vulnerable habitats.
These initiatives are part of Navdanya International’s Terrae Vivae program, dedicated to building ecological communities attentive to local, authentic food, protecting biodiversity and landscapes, promoting regenerative agriculture, and fostering the well-being of people, animals, and the environment. The goal is to nurture harmonious relationships among cultures, communities, and ecosystems—to generate value and a sense of care for the territories.
