This Book “Two paradigms for the future of humanity: The Mechanical Mind, Patents and Profits or The Ecological Mind, Biodiversity and Health- the philosophic perspective” portrays an epistemological and civilisational dialogue on the future of food, health and humanity. This argues how a civilizational realisation on the interconnectedness of food, biodiversity and health would contribute to human wellbeing and freedom, and the greater common good across diverse cultures and knowledge systems. Dr Vandana Shiva, a trained physicist and ecological scientist, shares three examples of how the tech corporates are planning to transform our food system, our bodies, our understanding of health, and the very meaning of being human, without any lessons learnt from the failure of the mechanistic paradigm in food and health over the last few decades – no debate or discussion, no assessment of risks and unintended impacts, and no taking into consideration safer and more sophisticated systems to address the problem. Dr GG Gangadharan, one of India’s leading Ayurveda physician and scholar, along with colleagues, presents the Ayurvedic and Indic perspective of concepts such as ‘Loka and Purusha’ (Pinda and Brahmanda), which bring deeper philosophical tone to demonstrate interconnections of microcosm and macrocosm, man and machine in the context of nature and food.

You are all invited to join the “The Two Futures of Food, Health and Humanity: A Civilisational Dialogue” virtual book launch and webinar organised jointly by CISSA (Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action) and Navdanya, New Delhi.

The inaugural talk in this series will be delivered by world-renowned environmental activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, Founder Director, Navdanya and Chairperson, IBC.

Book launch and introductory lecture: Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Professor and Former Director, Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

The authors of the book, Dr. Vandana Shiva and Dr. G.G Gangadharan will deliver lectures based on the chapters of the books, on food and health.
