World Soil Day

At Fattoria Faraoni, in the countryside around Sutri (VT, Italy), soil becomes the starting point for rethinking our food system. During a Terrae Vivae workshop promoted by Navdanya International, agronomist Lorenzo Maggi and farmer Andrea Cippitelli explore how organic matter, roots and soil structure reveal the difference between industrial and regenerative farming. Their dialogue connects living soils with biodiversity, the autonomy of rural communities and climate resilience, showing how agroecology can turn fields into places where seeds, animals and people co‑create fertile, resilient landscapes.

Soil, Seed and Life: Why World Soil Day Matters Now More Than Ever

Every day we tread on the soil beneath our feet. All trees, vegetables, food, water and life itself depend on it. Yet soil is a complex and fragile universe, the very foundation of every ecosystem and of our own survival. World Soil Day invites us to take a moment to focus on this hidden world and on how urgent it is to take care of it, in a global context of climate crisis, biodiversity loss and food insecurity. These interconnected challenges are also highlighted by FAO initiatives and agroecology networks.
