A webinar drawing together the prospective law of Ecocide and a corresponding case – the monoculture hazelnut industry in Tuscia, Central Italy.
A screening of the acclaimed short film Omelia Contadina (A Farmer’s Eulogy) by Alice Rohrwacher and Artist JR will be followed by a panel discussion between key voices from academia, law, agriculture and the local community.
The discussion will reflect upon how intensive hazelnut farming causes water, air, and soil pollution, as well as loss of biodiversity, food sovereignty and food safety and what preventative measures could mitigate this situation?
Our aim is to provoke a dialogue around the legal framework needed to prevent ecosystemic pollution damage by referring to a live example where continuing abuse could become catastrophic.
Speakers:
Gabriele Antoniella, PhD student at the University of Tuscia, farmer and activist
Ottavio Capparella, Lawyer in charge of the legal department and network of Accademia Kronos
Lara Fornabaio, Legal expert specialising in Agriculture at Client Earth
