champions sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, food sovereignty and the rights of small farmers around the world.

When young people walk through agroecological farm When young people walk through agroecological farms, touch living soil, and meet the farmers who care for it, something shifts. What once seemed distant or abstract: biodiversity, food systems, ecological citizenship, becomes embodied knowledge.

Terrae Vivae is Navdanya International's programme for cultivating this shift. It's not about transmitting information but about creating the conditions for a different relationship with the Earth. Through direct experience with water, soil, seeds, plants, and communities, participants begin to see themselves not as separate from nature but as part of a living web of interdependence.

This approach builds on over a decade of Navdanya Earth University work in India and connects local practice with global movements for food sovereignty, biodiversity, and Earth Democracy. Education becomes the first thread in a broader fabric: awareness, active participation, practical skills, and the regeneration of ecological communities rooted in resilience and shared responsibility.

Young people don't just learn: they become protagonists of change in their own territories, carrying forward a worldview where the Earth is recognised as a living organism and every being matters.

On this International Women’s Day, we honour the w On this International Women’s Day, we honour the women who defend life at its roots, keeping seeds, food, and communities alive in the face of climate chaos and industrial agriculture.

Across India, from rice cultures to Himalayan highlands and Adivasi forests, women farmers are regenerating soil, biodiversity and food sovereignty through their “gardens of hope”.

Today we share the films Annapurna and Shakti, which celebrate the courage of women seed keepers who walk away from GM crops and debt to cultivate autonomy, dignity, and resilience from the ground up. Watch, share, and stand with the women defending seeds, food, and the future of the Earth.

Cultivating ecological citizenship: young people e Cultivating ecological citizenship: young people exploring landscape, biodiversity and food 🌱

In the first meetings of our new program, we began a shared journey of learning, listening and dialogue with a group of high school students. Together, we explored four key topics: food and how it is produced, eco-anxiety and climate change, local landscapes and biodiversity, and the state of water in Lakes Bracciano and Martignano. The conversations showed a strong interest in where food comes from, how animals are raised, the differences between local production and large-scale distribution, and the social value of food as a daily moment of connection and sharing. Students also expressed a desire to better understand their territory and its biodiversity, linking this curiosity to their personal experiences of extreme weather events and concerns about the future.
